OASIS Application Development

by admin-vedawms last modified 2008-04-02 14:33

The main responsibilities of the group are to: identify and develop applications that widely benefit instructors, administrators and staff within the College, help faculty, administration and staff consider how technology can effectively address their pedagogical and administrative objectives and provide consultation, training, documentation, support and outsourcing pointers which serve the College's technology-related needs.

What services does the group provide?

Development

The group provides full life cycle application development services to the College. Generally applications developed internally are prioritized by their impact to the College in terms of the departments, faculty, administrators and students who would benefit from an application.

Priority is generally given to applications whose impact is cross-departmental and/or wide reaching in terms of impact in the College. For instance, an application for three departments for an on-going purpose will generally be given priority over that for a single faculty member for a one-time course offering.

We will also attempt to identify suitable applications solutions that might already exist either on campus or off the shelf.

Consulting

The group will act as a consultant providing application development guidance to departments or to other application developers building applications on behalf of departments.

Outsourcing

When necessary the group will help those requesting application development services identify appropriate external resources. The group, if requested, will act in a liaison role on behalf of the application requesting entity.

What services does the group not provide?

Limits to our development.

The service will, generally speaking, limit its development to applications which are sustainable, have a broad impact and will significantly benefit administrators, faculty, staff and students. "One-off" application development needs will likely not be handled by this group.

Modification of third party applications.

The group will generally not make modifications to third party applications (commercial or consultant developed) except in cases in which the vendor has provided an API for this purpose and the need for the work meets our other vetting criteria.

How is the group funded?

This group's work is funded through both state positions and a state nonpersonnel budget supplemented with the fee for service work the funding from which is used to support student and temporary employees.

Who is in the group?

The group includes the following staff:

Tae Lerch (Manager)
Ying Lang
Kathy Vreeland
Charles Coleman
Trey Brumley
Nemah Eljabaly

Who can use the group's services?

Any administrator, faculty or staff in the College is welcome to contact the group about our services. Take note, however, that our development model provides a limited number of cycles for various constituencies in any fiscal year.
