All Services

An inventory of all of OASIS's services provided to supported users in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Page "Sandbox" Training Space
The "Sandbox" is a training room located in Howell 05 dedicated to raising the collective technical skill level of the faculty and staff across the college through group and individual training and workshops. It is outfitted with 12 computers with both Windows and Mac operating systems on them, as well as a fantastic whiteboard and projector.
Page Active Directory Management
Active Directory is a directory service developed by Microsoft in order to deliver a directory-based architecture for domain resources such as authentication, security, management, and client resources. AD provides a central, replicated, and secure database of said resources in order to deliver a robust and comprehensive solution to the demands of Information Technology.
Page Advising Scheduler
The Advising Schedule is a web application used by students in the College of Arts and Science and General College to schedule academic advising appointments. The Advising Scheduler allows students to schedule either phone or in-person appointments based on a student's selected major, reason, and class.
Page Annual Report
The Annual Report System is a web application used by faculty, chairs, and recipients of private funding in the College of Arts and Sciences to report on their activities during the previous academic year.
Page Citrix
OASIS provides web accessible applications. This service allows users in the College to run certain software titles without the need to install them locally.

Page Desktop Support
OASIS provides deskside support for faculty, staff, and graduate students affiliated with various departments within the College of Arts and Sciences. Being covered under an OASIS service contract provides these departments with the following services.
Page Echo360
OASIS and the Global Education Center are currently testing Echo360 and their classroom capture technology in the Auditorium of the GEC.
Page iTunesU
Thanks to the initiative and help of Doug Edmunds and Brian Payst, OASIS has become fully vested in the iTunesU initiative at UNC.
Page Mobile Device Support
OASIS supports various PDA platforms, including Palm, Treo and Blackberry devices. This support can include syncronization with OASIS supported computers, and connection to various UNC resources, including the calendar system and UNC email. For assistance, please submit an online service request.
Page Multimedia Production
Oasis is equipped to support multimedia as well as other 'new and emerging media' production across the college of Arts & Sciences.
Page Nonpersonnel
The NonPersonnel Funding Request System allows College of Arts and Sciences Departments to submit funding requests to the Dean's Office for non-personnel expenses.
Page On Call Service
OASIS provides on-call services to ensure that off-hours support will continue for the services we provide. Currently, the supported areas are defined by the management team. On call duties are delegated on a rotating basis to OASIS staff members, who function as the primary contact in order to respond, analyze, and follow through with resolution of the support issue.
Page Online Tutor
The Online Tutor allows students to submit drafts and receive feedback from UNC Chapel Hill Writing Center tutors. Students can and do use the Online Tutor to submit drafts at any time of the day or night. In addition to course-related assignments, cover letters, admissions essays, and other types of writing may be submitted for feedback. The code for the Online Tutor is used in a separate deployed instance by NC State. It has also been modified for use by the University of Iowa Writing Center.
Page Patch Management
Patch management is the process of controlling the deployment of both application and operating system patches and updates throughout the organization. It is necessary to maintain a stable, efficient, secure, and up to date infrastructure in order to overcome security vulnerabilities and intrusion attacks. Patch management is also necessary to overcome these security concerns in order to protect the organization’s intellectual property and production environment.
Page Research Computing
The research computing area is an effort to provide a bridge between services that are provided by ITS and the needs of various kinds of research activities across the College. This nascent group is currently mapping out the "universe" of technological research needs, tools, and campus-provided resources so as to arrive at a set of technological solutions that OASIS could be in a position to provide long-term.
Page Software Development
OASIS provides full life cycle software development services to the College. Generally applications developed internally are prioritized by their impact to the College in terms of the departments, faculty, administrators and students who would benefit from an application.
Page Staffing Workload
The Staffing Workload System is a Web-based application designed to track the workload of instructors of record within the departments of the UNC-CH College of Arts and Sciences.
Page Surplus Program
OASIS provides a College-wide surplus program for computers and laptops.
Page VPN Service
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides an encrypted connection (secure tunnel) from outside networks or Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to the UNC-Chapel Hill internal network. UNC has installed a Cisco VPN concentrator that allows authorized users to access network resources from off campus using an ISP dial-in, DSL or cable modem service with Onyen authentication. You can work securely, just as if you were physically on campus.
