Expanded Services

Expanded services are made available to OASIS's supported users in the College of Arts and Science. These are different from core services in that there is some restriction related to the service. In some cases this may mean applying for the services, or paying a fee for the service.

Page "Sandbox" Training Space
The "Sandbox" is a training room located in Howell 05 dedicated to raising the collective technical skill level of the faculty and staff across the college through group and individual training and workshops. It is outfitted with 12 computers with both Windows and Mac operating systems on them, as well as a fantastic whiteboard and projector.
Page Advising Scheduler
The Advising Schedule is a web application used by students in the College of Arts and Science and General College to schedule academic advising appointments. The Advising Scheduler allows students to schedule either phone or in-person appointments based on a student's selected major, reason, and class.

Page Online Tutor
The Online Tutor allows students to submit drafts and receive feedback from UNC Chapel Hill Writing Center tutors. Students can and do use the Online Tutor to submit drafts at any time of the day or night. In addition to course-related assignments, cover letters, admissions essays, and other types of writing may be submitted for feedback. The code for the Online Tutor is used in a separate deployed instance by NC State. It has also been modified for use by the University of Iowa Writing Center.
Page Research Computing
The research computing area is an effort to provide a bridge between services that are provided by ITS and the needs of various kinds of research activities across the College. This nascent group is currently mapping out the "universe" of technological research needs, tools, and campus-provided resources so as to arrive at a set of technological solutions that OASIS could be in a position to provide long-term.
Page Software Development
OASIS provides full life cycle software development services to the College. Generally applications developed internally are prioritized by their impact to the College in terms of the departments, faculty, administrators and students who would benefit from an application.
Page Surplus Program
OASIS provides a College-wide surplus program for computers and laptops.
